LACB - 25 GREAT SUCCESS


The Last Annual Crusader Ball was held in Pensacola 3-7 May 2011 in conjunction with Naval Aviation’s Centennial celebration. The Friday Gunfighters’ Ball drew a record crowd. PHOTOS HERE.

WELCOME ABOARD SERGEANT MAJOR            



Walter T. Jennings (Tom) has been installed as the Squadron-235 Sergeant Major. Tom served with the Squadron in Beaufort, SC and Atsugi, Japan from 1960 to 1964. He has remained in touch with many fellow squadron members over the years, and has been instrumental in organizing reunions and gatherings of former 235 members.

We are saddened to report that “Pappy” Lynch passed away Wednesday morning, 10 April 2013. Pappy had just celebrated his 91st birthday.


Visitation and mass for LtCol Dwayne “Pappy” Lynch will be held Friday, 12 April 2013 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 308 E 22nd Avenue, Gulf Shores, Alabama. Visitation will be from noon until 1:00PM. Mass will be at 1:00PM


Burial was at Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station

We are saddened to report that Major Michael Ridge "Juice" Sobyra passed away in April 2013. Michael served with VMFA-235 flying the Hornet in Desert Storm. He was selected for “Top Gun” and later instructed there. Mike retired to Visalia, CA, earning a law degree and working at the Weapons School at Lemoore Naval Air Station.


While assigned to VMFA-235, Michael provided our RNR editor, Matthew “Buck” Peck, with current news from the Squadron.

OCTOBER IN NEW ORLEANS

The New Orleans gathering was a great success in spite of Chuck and Wallis’ flight cancellation and Donna’s very long day of traveling. All others arrived on schedule. Great food and good times!

We regret having to inform you of the death of a former Squadron member. LtCol Jacob E. (Bud) Iles passed away on 23 May 2014. Bud served in the Squadron in 1961, 1962 and 1963. Originally from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Bud was a graduate of the USNA. He and Elaine were long-time residents of St. Augustine, FL.
